Back home after another aborted attempt to get to the office. Apparently some six million British workers couldn’t get into work yesterday due to the snow and ice and I’d wager a fair few will still not be able to make it in today.
Listening to the latest news report, it all cost the economy more than £1bn. So I still want to know how much preventative measures would cost? I’ve a Turkish friend staying over at the moment, and she can’t believe how the whole country seemingly shut down yesterday. Istanbul, where she’s from, isn’t a city known for it’s Arctic temperatures, but copes far far better during snowstorms, which only occur a couple of times a year.
Anyway, it seems to have been a good excuse for a mass duvet day yesterday, so spare a thought for poor old Rob, a pal of mine who normally gets the train to Gatwick every day. He had booked Monday off to have a long weekend, but as his boss called him up and said only ‘essential’ workers had to come in, he would have had the day off anyway.
