Package tourists spend most of holiday in hotel, says new survey

A new survey has indicated that most package holidaymakers spend most of their time in their hotel complexes, and ignore local culture, restaurants and attractions.

The research, commissioned by Halifax insurance, showed that seven out of ten respondents who had been on an all-inclusive or half-board holiday never visited tourist attractions outside their hotel, and only 42 per cent spent any time trying to learn any of the local language or making contact with local people.

Package all-inclusive or half-board tourists spend an average of just seven hours outside of their hotels, according to the survey.
